Company information

I love living on this property which is a very unique and special place. Being in a rural area, I enjoy the different seasons through the year: the hot summers when the countryside is dry and golden, the beauty of autumn with the changing colours of the foliage, the cold wintery months with wood fires warming all the rooms and cottages and the glory of spring with flowering bulbs and roses bursting with colour. Gardening is my hobby and the gardens at Hillside are extensive, so there is plenty to do all year round! Gardening in this climate is challenging as York experiences extremes of temperature which take their toll on the plantings, so the garden looks its best in the spring when it is green and lush and toasted and dry in the summer when the unrelenting sun scorches everything in its path. As reading is another of my hobbies, I belong to a book club where once a month I get to meet with a lively group of ladies who share my passion for literature. I divide the remaining time visiting family in the city and enjoying the company of my grandchildren and friends. The greatest benefit from providing accommodation ensures I meet new and interesting people who choose to stay.

Property information

Hillside is a beautiful historic property set on several acres of gorgeous farmland at the entrance to the town of York. From here, if you do not choose to drive, you can walk to the main street instead to access some of the attractions the town has to offer. There are sprawling gardens to explore and towering peppercorn and gum trees provide a haven for birds and local wildlife. You can enjoy the awesome splendour of star studded night skies and soak up the peace and quiet, while enjoying a sundowner or barbecue on your veranda. Hillside is the ultimate place to relax and recharge and offers an escape from the daily bustle and busyness of life in the city. Our ensuite rooms and self-catering cottages are thoughtfully furnished to provide you with all the comforts and necessities to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. As the property is accessed via a long driveway, it offers privacy and leaves the noise of passing traffic behind, so you can enjoy the serenity of nature that surrounds you. The accommodation is thoughtfully sited so that your time spent with family and friends ensures privacy from your fellow guests.

Neighbourhood information

York is primarily a farming town which amazingly is just over an hour's drive from the city of Perth. History abounds in this rural setting, being the first inland town to be settled and the oldest farm which still exists today. The main street in particular is lined on both sides with beautiful original buildings whose distinctive architecture is much admired by visitors to the town. In addition, there are several old churches which still serve the local community. A visit to the little museum is a must, as it showcases the history of the town and is filled with interesting historic facts and memorabilia donated by the earliest families and settlers who faced enormous challenges and hardship. York offers visitors attractions like the swing bridge over the Avon River, parks and recreational spaces, a novel outdoor eating experience greatly favoured by the locals and many historic buildings to visit. The Sandalwood Yards house the archives which is well patronised by those seeking answers to their genealogy and the Town Hall's architecure and design is especially interesting . For the adventurous, we have a skydiving centre with ballooning and gliding available nearby.
