The facility is an historic one, very elegant and cosy, overlooking the city and in a woody area. The managers were very friendly and helpful. They upgraded my accommodation due to plumbing problems. The breakfast was delicious and handmade....

Penghana is a Heritage listed property built in 1898. Originally owned by the Mt Lyell Mining and Railway Company it was home to 11 General Managers until the late 1996, when its ownership was transferred to National Trust Tasmania and the house was established as a Bed & Breakfast business. The house has a rich history and is a fine example of yesteryear grandeur including ornate fireplaces, lead light entrance, magnificent blackwood staircase, attic and spacious rooms. Current business owners have been onsite hosts since 2015. Today Penghana B&B is well known for spoiling guests and offering a memorable B&B experience with silver service.
Your hosts purchased Penghana B&B business in December 2015. Under their stewardship they have brought new life to the house updating many facilities and decor as well as adding creature comforts and many extra touches for their guests. When you stay at Penghana you will enjoy silver service, homemade fruitcake, local plunger coffee and you'll find hosts who will not just leave a key for you, but on arrival give you a true welcome, show you around the house and the facilities available during your stay.. Whether its a dinner reservation, assistance with booking a tour experience, laundry to be done, a little local knowledge on what to see/do on the next leg of your trip, you'll find the team at Penghana obliging.
Queenstown originally a copper mining town, has a significant past history. One needs to be prepared to look beyond the surface to appreciate all it has to offer. Although there are rich reserves of copper still to be mined Queenstown has established itself as a Tourism Destination with award winning tourism experiences such as the Wilderness Railway, King River Rafting, Mountain Biking and wildnerness/heritage tours from the comfort of an air conditioned 4 wheel drive to places not accessible to the general public. Queenstown is a great destination for just exploring nature or enjoying the growing arts community. Only 45 minutes away, you have Strahan and easy access to Gordon River Cruises. If you love walks, hiking, nature and amazing scenery Queenstown is a 'must do' stay for 2 nights. You can visit Zeehan, Corrina and even Cradle Mountain for a short trip from your Queenstown base. Queenstown's museum will keep you busy for several hours in some 30 rooms. Restaurant options whilst limited, are diverse.
