Strathmore Farm was built in 1901. Our B&B cottage was built in 1983. We renovated it in 2016. We have 24 acres here and two permanent creeks. The cottage is in the 2 ½ acres of long-established gardens we love and tend. Many large European deciduous trees, roses, berries, fruit trees, azaleas, ornamental cherries, all abound here. We run a few white Dorper sheep, have two alpacas ("Amity and Bluebell"), 6 Scottish Belted Galloway cows, some chickens and 3 very social cats. And an old Italian tractor. Please note we do not have reliable free-to-air TV here. You can get all the channels on our Apple TV and our Android streaming device - but if you are a footy fan , you need to bring your laptop and your Foxtel account.
We are both recently retired (did we?) professional people and moved here in 2014 from Melbourne. A total change for us, a new phase in our lives and we'd never change that decision. We fell in love with Strathmore and its gardens. Julie runs Fruits of Strathmore, our jams, sauces and chutneys adventure and Doug is mainly renovating everything! We both look after our animals and participate in the local community through our Landcare, CFA and CWA memberships.
Mirboo North has 2500 people and 67 community organisations. Full of independent, friendly, resourceful people. We live in a district that loves good food, slow food, real food - and all this set amongst the rolling green fertile hills of the Strzlecki Ranges and the Grand Ridge Road. Stay with us and you're 90 minutes from the coast, the snow, the rainforest and the edge of Melbourne. And 5 minutes from the milk bar and the award winning Grand Ridge Brewery!
