Property information

Experience the charm of one of Victoria's oldest heritage listed properties. Free street parking. At Victoria House you can enjoy the friendly atmosphere circa1853-56, fully restored Georgian private hotel of historical importance. Relax in our guest lounge with comfy armchairs, piano and complimentary Port, Sherry and fruitcake in front of the open fire, or in the relaxing sun-room with books and magazines provided. We have a lovely sunny breakfast room overlooking the garden with a choice of continental, cooked, or if early departure a breakfast basket is available on request. We offer free WiFi throughout the house. We are a short stroll from the foreshore of Portland with its Marina, the Information Centre, cable tram, Botanic gardens, indoor pools & a great range of cafes and restaurants. The shopping precinct is in the block behind us with evrything you may need. Hospital - 2 blocks away. In front of our grassy foreshore, the busy marina is home to pleasure craft and keen anglers chasing after the Tuna and other plentiful catches. Whales visit us in the winter, even within the harbour itself.

Neighbourhood information

Portland is a true working port and there is always something happening. Commercial fishing, crayfish boats tie up at the pier, we have a variety of commercial ships handling logs, wood chips, livestock, fertiliser and aluminium. Unloading the wood chips is a site worth watching! The Botanic gardens offer magnificent displays of roses and dahlias in season. Explore the town on our Tram, and learn something of our history. Mary Mackillop story- ask us. Discover more of our maritime history at the Visitors Centre including a whale skeleton to see. Visit Treloars' Roses, the Strawberry Farm, Cape Nelson lighthouse, Cape Bridgewater - home to our large seal colony, the blow holes, the petrified forest walk & the kids will love the enchanted forest. Wildlife is not limited to seals. Portland has a large Gannet colony. You may well see a Koala strolling along the street, often in our back yard !! We have a great self guided (with a map!!) historic buildings walk in the local cbd. Take time to explore our township, the birth place of Victoria, the history, galleries and natural beauty. Locally based Budj Bim aboriginal group offer tours thru ancient heritage sites. A lovely peaceful place. Plenty to see & do to make your visit here a great one.
