The Theaterplein was a thorn in the side of many Antwerp residents. The square, with the Stadsschouwburg, HetPaleis, the Antwerp Music Theater and the nearby shopping streets in the center, lacked charisma and fell into further disrepair. The Italian architects Bernardo Secchi and Paola Viganò and the Flemish engineer-architect Dirk Jaspaert have turned this complex situation - with apparently more problems than potential qualities - into a very special square.
