This 1851 manor is the only Greek Revival Plantation home in Canada. We are restoring it inside and out to the original grandeur. The newest project completed is the Carriage House Studio flat that is carefully designed to accommodate a family of up to six people. All Three beds have the highest quality queen mattresses and all situated in the open concept studio flat, all to have view of the two picture windows overlooking the forested ravine and the Grand River. Enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the 1880 fireplace while also watching the 55" Smart TV featuring highspeed internet and Netfix. The ceramic floor in the bathroom is heated and the kitchette was creatively designed with an 1890 Hoozier and antique drysink customized with a large stainless steel sink. Kitchenette includes a full fridge/freezer, and the cupboards are stocked with dishes and enough small appliances to create gourmet meals. Every detail including full sized Washer/Dryer is included to complete a "home away from home" environment. Guests also enjoy the little cabin tucked in the wooded area by the river...get closer to nature and enjoy watching the wildlife.
Rick and I have been restoring this old house for the past twelve years. We have taken the time to get every detail right. The house is full of period furnishings and even the wall coverings have been reproduced to suite the era of the home. We have researched the history of every owner and renter that have lived in the manor and even met everyone who is still alive that lived here. There are many amazing stories to share. The history is endless. This home was the only one in this are that welcomed the Slaves that came to this country via the underground railroad. Rumour has it that the owner in 1871 held a party to show off his wife's new diamond ring..."the Krupp Diamond". (not likely as it was found in the early 1900's and in the '70's owned by Elizabeth Taylor. But it is a fun story to tell. The story is true about a large diamond ring and one window is etched "Sophia 1871". This 14 year old daughter of the Sifton family just had to prove it was real. There are always great treats baked daily and guests are always greeted with scones fresh from the oven and welcome to sit in the sunroom to enjoy the view of the property. This is also home of "Tea On The Grand".
Paris is known as the "Cobblestone Capital of Canada" as there are many homes built with these unique little round rocks. Our location was dubbed "Cobblestone Corner" back in the late 1800's. There are many examples of this architecture including the church and "Dr Souden House", both across the street. The Wolverton's were friends with the master mason, Levi Boughton who built Asa a Smoke House and an stone garden wall across the front of his home. The front portico was paved with cobblestone as well, but over time the stones were removed and through restoration a decision was made to remove and replace the front patio. Paris is home to many nature paths including the Rail Trail which is part of the grand trail accross this country. 500,000 people annually enjoy canoeing, kayaking and rafting right in our back yard on the grand river. Paris hosts a great variety of special events including the Fall Fair, Buttertart Festival, Antique shows, Vintage motorcycle show etc, and not to forget that this river showcases the best fly-fishing in Ontario
