This house, along with the adjacent olive mill, was built in 1800. My grandmother Antigone, who was born in this house in 1890, has lived her entire life in it with my grandfather Nicholas. This house held their love for each other and their 7 children. Besides her name I have inherited her house. This place has been my shangri-la ever since I can remember. When my husband and I decided to restore it back in 2005, our main concern was to respect the history and architecture of the house. This is why we used materials and restoration methods true to the original Lefkara architecture.
Its imposing interior, clad in original stone and rough wooden ceiling beams, is true to traditional local architecture elevated with modern touches for your indulgent relaxation. The leisure room boasts a large sofa custom-made specifically, and the kitchen is fully equipped to facilitate private dinners, to be enjoyed in the dining room or the veranda. Each of the three bedrooms is decorated with heirlooms, be it vintage abat-jours, side tables made with marble and wood from 1940s New York, Indian raw silk curtains, or original Lefkara lacework. I hope your stay here is pleasant, and that it may leave the same calmness and gentleness in your heart as it does in mine.
The Whitestone Mill is situated in Lefkara’s most picturesque road, less than 100m from the Holy Cross Church and a 5-minute walk to the village center. The area surrounding the Holy Cross Church has been declared as a historic preservation site due to its architectural style. My preferred pass-time is strolling in the quaint narrow streets - other options include indulging in the Cyprus coffee-shop culture under the warm Mediterranean sky, trying local takes on brunch foods or traditional cuisine, visiting its number of tiny churches, or deciding on a quick dip in the Limassol sea, only a 20 min car ride away.
