Bayreuth is a city on the Red Main River in the German state of Bavaria. The Richard Wagner Museum is located in the city center in the composer's former home, Villa Wahnfried (also Haus Wahnfried). Wagner's operas are performed at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, the venue for the annual Bayreuth Festival. In the Eremitage park on the eastern outskirts of the city are the Old Palace, which accommodates a museum, and the Temple of the Sun, dedicated to the god Apollo.
