Santiago del Teide is a Tenerife municipality located in the southwest of the island, which extends from the coast of Puerto Santiago to the pine forests of Teide along a 1000 metre slope. Its stable climate throughout the year, the beauty of its landscapes and the pleasant temperature of its waters invite you to enjoy nature and the sea in Santiago del Teide. In the upper part of the municipality you can appreciate the contrast between the volcanic landscape and the vine, almond and fig tree crops. The Chinyero volcano, in the Special Natural Reserve of Chinyero, is the protagonist of the last eruption that took place in Tenerife in 1909. The seafaring town of Puerto Santiago is home to the impressive Cliff of the Giants, and has a very popular marina and a black sand beach that has been awarded the blue flag of the clean seas of Europe. In 1960 Juan Manuel Capdevielle discovered the landscape of the Cliffs of the Giants and promoted the urbanization of the area with the aim of dedicating it to tourism. A weather station was established which for three years measured various aspects of the climate of the area and the sea and concluded that it was one of the most benign climates in the world. The richness of its coastline means that several species of cetaceans live in its waters, which can be seen on excursions in specialised boats.
