Company information
The hosts? We are Linda and Alex, a couple originally drawn to the magic of the French countryside and lucky enough to call Château de la Forge home since its restoration in 2018-19. Alongside our friendly Golden Retriever (who’s always happy to meet and greet new guests!), we live on site and love welcoming families, friends, and travelers from around the world.
Since purchasing the château, we’ve been lovingly restoring and enhancing it year by year. We’re currently expanding our gardens, including a new greenhouse and a kitchen garden that brings fresh, seasonal produce straight to the breakfast table. Hosting is not just something we do, it is something we genuinely enjoy. We’re here to help make your stay comfortable, memorable, and as relaxed as country life should be.
Property information
Located on the border between the White Périgord -renowned for its elegant pale-stone architecture- and the Red Périgord, celebrated for its characterful wines, Château de la Forge is a serene countryside retreat offering timeless charm and a warm welcome.
Lovingly restored, this 17th-century château blends classic French elegance with modern comforts. Guests can enjoy a refreshing swim in the 18-metre long outdoor pool, unwind in the peaceful gardens, roam the 32-acre estate, or curl up with a book in the wood-paneled boiserie or the serene poolside library. The sun-drenched terrace invites leisurely afternoons, while barbecue facilities offer the perfect excuse for dining beneath the stars. Inside, you’ll also find a charming billiards room and a spacious dining hall - complete with the must-have long table where candlelit dinners take on a life of their own.
Each guest room features a large, modern bed, those gloriously oversized French wardrobes (the kind that would never fit into a modern apartment!), and a private en-suite bathroom with either a walk-in shower or a bathtub, depending on the room. At Château de la Forge you'll find all you need to experience a modern take on the country lifestyle once reserved for the landed gentry - or the petite noblesse in France.
Neighbourhood information
The Dordogne is one of France’s most enchanting regions, offering a blend of rich history, stunning natural beauty, and world-renowned cuisine. Known as the heart of the Périgord, the region is divided into distinct areas: the White Périgord, with its picturesque villages and beautiful stone architecture; the Red Périgord, famous for its vineyards and charming wine estates; and the Black Périgord, home to the world’s best truffles and breathtaking forests.
Just a stone’s throw from Vergt -the Strawberry Capital of France- and the truffle-rich woodlands of the Black Périgord, the château is perfectly placed to explore the very best of the Dordogne, its exquisite gastronomy… and beyond. After all, the world-famous vineyards of Saint-Émilion are just 45 minutes away!
Conveniently located, the château is just 20 minutes from Bergerac and its small international airport, 30 minutes from the Gallo-Roman city of Périgueux—Dordogne’s capital—and only an hour and a half from Bordeaux and its major international airport.
Whether you’re wandering through medieval towns like Sarlat, exploring prehistoric caves like Lascaux, or sampling local delicacies such as foie gras, truffles, and pâtés, the Dordogne is a haven for food lovers. The region’s vineyards produce some of the finest wines in France and it sits just a short drive away from the Bordeaux region and its "decent" wines too.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy, with scenic hiking trails, cycling routes, and canoeing opportunities along the Dordogne River. Historic castles, charming market towns, and relaxing countryside await discovery, making it the perfect destination for those looking to unwind, explore, or indulge in the best of French culture.
At Château de la Forge, we’re ideally situated to explore all this and more - whether you’re here for a cultural adventure, a wine tour, or simply to enjoy the peace and beauty of the Dordogne.
