Second time staying in this quirky place. Lovely hosts, comfy bed, excellent location in the centre of Ruffec. No bells and whistles, just a decent spot to get your head down at a very reasonable price.

The hotel is in the middle of a typical small French town which has a market twice a week, a beautiful church and lots of green spaces. The accommodation is basic but comfortable and the shared kitchen well-equipped. The owners are exceptionally...

Centrally located right on market square. Unfortunately we could not make use of that as it was a Monday and France pretty much closes on a Monday. Accommodation was perfectly adequate for a short stay and hostess was wonderfully welcoming and...

Gazelle Guest house and Art Gallery is a sensitively restored two-storey house, originally built more than 200 hundred years ago, in the town centre overlooking the Market square. Complete with re-discovered archways and tunnels the restoration highlights both ancient and modern features. Gazelle Guest House can be rented as a full package , accommodating up to 9 guests or as 3 separate suites, all en-suite. The Lounge, Dining Area and Kitchen are communal places where you can meet other guests, play games, read books and admire the Artwork. All artworks are available to purchase. On market days, Wednesday and Saturday mornings, the Art Gallery can be opened to the public. The top floor suite sleeps up to 5 guests and has a roof terrace with wide views over the meadows. The first floor has two suites. One suite has two bedrooms, sleeping 3 guests and the other suite has one single bed. All bedrooms are en-suite. You will be delighted by the unique architectural shapes and features within the house. The artshop frontage belies a charming and characterful interior.

This town celebrates its Roman past, nestling in fields of wheat and sunflowers alongside the River Charente as it makes its way West from the interior to La Rochelle, twisting and curving through the winelands. The River Charente boasts a beach/waterfront where swimming and hired canoes are available during the summer season. Gazelle Guest house and Art Gallery is opposite the Town Hall, on the Market Square and two doors away from the Tourist Bureau. Within the town centre there are restaurants, bars, pharmacies, banks and hairdressers. Market days are Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with the fresh fish indoor market on Fridays. These take place in the main square. A longer walk through the tree-lined promenade will bring you to another supermarket, hardware store, shoes, clothing and decorative arts. Walking in the opposite direction to town will bring you onto a meadowed plateau with far- reaching views of the countryside, where you can stretch your legs for many miles or ride your bicycle.
