The Grange is a recently renovated 19th century barn attached to a traditional Normandy longere farmhouse. The origins of the buildings are much earlier, the barn has been renovated to a very high standard with traditional features throughout. It is large, light and spacious with magnificent views over the Marais du Cotentin, a regional park and conservation area.
Jonathan is a fully trained tour guide, specialising in historical tours, including the d-Day landing beaches and other sites connected to the history of the area, including Viking and Norman History. Guided tours are available in his fully conditoned eight seater minibus. Madeleine is a journalist specialising in equestrian magazines. Both are passionate about the rich history of the area as well as local cuisine!
Le Port Butor lies in the heart of the Cotentin wetlands – marshes that support a wealth of wildlife and agricultural activity. Often flooded in winter but managed as pasture in the spring and summer they provide grazing and hay production for cattle and horses. In the summer, green pastures and spectacular sunsets. In winter, a huge lake teeming with birds. We are 15k from the nearest beaches including the D-Day landing beaches. Our nearest town is Sainte-Mere-Eglise, famous for being the first town to be liberated in France on 6 June 1944. Every year there are numerous events and ceremonies during the period around the 6 June in the surrounding area. We are about 40 minutes from Cherbourg and about an hour from Bayeux. 1 hour 20 minutes from Caen. 30 minutes from St Lô.
