Property information

The property was carefully converted into a family home by your hosts. The same family has lived in this village since the 17th century. The home is filled with interesting furniture, paintings, drawings, photos, and crafts. A terrace covered with antique tiles provides an ideal spot for outdoor meals. It overlooks the pool and gardens and has a great view of the countryside beyond. The warmth of the village, the charm of the countryside, and the history of this family dwelling combined make it an ideal retreat as well as a base for exploring the many cultural and historical aspects of Languedoc. From the covered stone terrace where you will enjoy taking all of your meals, one oversees down below both gardens where a variety of flowers abounds, the 11m x 5m swimming pool surrounded by a granite large edge, a great pool house and, in the distance for miles around, the countryside of vineyards, olive groves, and fields. Right at the edge of the terrace, a sofa awaits you for an afternoon nap. Read a magazine or a novel, or simply admire the surrounding countryside! Les Oliviers accommodates up to 10 guests in comfort.

Neighbourhood information

The nearby villages are free of tourists, even though it is within a short distance of many points of interest. The village is located in the Minervois, a part of the Languedoc Roussillon region. This part of France is known for its wines, which are constantly improving in quality. One of the latest wine labels is called La Livignière, which is well appreciated by Robert Parker, the renowned US wine expert. The area is often compared to Tuscany, in Italy, because of the similarities in the regions' agro-tourism resources. Both are known for their olive groves, olive oils, a wide range of culinary treasures, vegetables, fruits, cheeses (mostly goat's cheese), and of course their wines. The Languedoc region is full of history. The village of Minerve (7 km from the house) was a strategic location for the medieval Cathar sect and an important stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostelle in Spain during medieval times. It was also the home of Simon de Montfort, the medieval nobleman who crushed the Cathars. Another key site of the middle ages, the abbey at Fontfroide is 25 km away and well worth a visit.
