Company information

Jane and Tony would like to invite you to discover Sainte-Alvere, Perigord, Dordogne, a very tranquil and picturesque village.  We came to Sainte Alvere in June 2016 for a new way of life, and away from the stresses of life in England, and as Tony is very keen on riding his sportsbike, this area with the fantastic roads out here is ideal, so if you need any advice on where to go, Tony would be only too happy to advise or indeed take you himself on a tour, on some well used routes he knows.  We have maintenance tools available and a secured garage for the Motorbikes. "Le Montaigne" was purchased in 2016 with the interior and exterior having been fully refurbished ready for business in 2017.

Property information

"Le Montaigne" is a restored 16th Century three storey village house, which sits in the picturesque village of Sainte-Alvere, which is well known for its scenery and winter truffle market.  It offers four comfortable kingsize bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms. There is a park immediately opposite our house, so all four bedrooms and our terrace face the park and the fabulous views. After a long day visiting the sights, you are most welcome to sit on the terrace, watching the world go by in the warm evening air.  (At the moment we do not have a drinks licence, but you are very welcome to sit drinking your own drinks). Although we have 4 comfortable kingsize bedrooms at "Le Montaigne", one of them can be used as 2 single beds, whilst another room (family room) has 2 singles and a kingsize which can be used as 4 singles (although this is a family room, regrettably it is not suitable for very young children due to the window being very low.  The rooms come with hairdryers, tea & coffee making facilities, Wi-Fi and a Continental Breakfast, which can be served either in the dining room or on the terrace.  All bedrooms have their own shower room (2 x Ensuites).

Neighbourhood information

The village although small, has everything.  As well as being a perfect place for exploring the Dordogne, it has 3 Restaurants, Coffee Shop, Bar Tabac, Supermarket, Pharmacy, Cash Point, Post Office, Hairdressers, 2 Bakers, Petrol Station, Tourist Information and on Mondays there is a local market, with local products. All that remains today of the castle are 3 towers, the postern gate, the battlements and a dovecote. The village streets are still dotted with evidence of long disappeared rural ways, the wash house, the "tramalh" an Octican name for the structure used for harnessing and feeding horses and cattle, a well and a spring. It is a village that was once dominated by a huge fortress, of which was destroyed during the revolution. There are many places to walk or cycle, 5 hiking trails leave Sainte-Alvere and lead walkers through the region's natural and man-made heritage.  The footpaths are betweeen 4km and 11km long, and perfect for one-day walks through hamlets, past old farms, through woods and agricultural land. The Dordogne and Vezere Rivers are beautiful, so as well as a bit of sunbathing you can hire kayaks or canoes from a neighbouring village.
