The Gite at La Garenne is a self contained part of our home. We live here in France and love the small village. The view of the river is fabulous and very addictive :) Many hours have been spent just watching the river flow past. The wildlife in the area is great with kingfishers, buzzards and eagles regularly seen. There are nightingales in the woods as well as owls and woodpeckers. The village is just over the bridge ( a couple of minutes walk ) and the bakers and small shop provide a lovely source of local produce, perfect for breakfast. The bar is open for coffee and lunches throughout the week. Just up the road in the other direction is the canoeing and camping centre where meals, snacks and drinks are available throughout the day.
Heather and David moved to France in 2009 and have been living at La Garenne ever since. We spend our time gardening and enjoying the country life. David teaches painting at a weekly art course held in the village bar.
The Charente is a very green and wooded rural area. There are chateaux and historical monuments in the area surrounding the property. The quiet roads and the peaceful relaxed pace of life make it an ideal place to unwind and let go of all the stresses of modern life.
