We are Mark and Ingrid Burling, a couple in our 60s, who moved to France two years ago. Prior to this we hosted guests from around the world – Belgian, French, Spanish, Thai, Chinese, Indian and English – for 7 years, and so are experienced hosts who will make you feel at home straight away. Mark loves hiking, gardening and reading, while Ingrid loves cooking, writing and swimming in cold water. We both love going to movies, theatres and concerts. We will help you to ceate great trips out, and we hope this will be the first of many happy visits.
The town of Saint-Claud is famous as the snail capital of France, boasting an increasingly popular festival in Autumn. Just 3mins away on foot, you'll find a pool with a slide and shady trees; while the town centre has a butcher, patisserie, supermarket, bistro/restaurant, doctor, pharmacy, hairdressers, garage, ATM and post office. There is also a weekly market. Just 30mins away by car you will find the truy beautiful Charente lakes (lacs du Charente) with lots of water sports; in Confolens (15mins) you can see the world dance festival; have a picnic while watching the famous vintage car rally around Charente; go to Angoulême (30mins) for one of its many festivals; or taste cognac - in Cognac!
