I fell in love with Rue Basse because it's a real street, full of real people in a real village, in for me one of the most authentic parts of France. I'm not really sure what that means, but a gold toothed smile from Fatimah or a cheery wave from Arnaud as I walk towards the Boulangerie, are all the medicine I need. With an open heart, Montreal will make you very welcome indeed. Oh, and it's a very nice house full of interesting stuff with beautiful views, but then I would say that wouldn't I?
Always on my phone, sadly, and if I'm not in France the house is looked after by the very brilliant Lynn.
A truly great Boulangerie. Two good places to eat...one a bit more pizza with a bar, the other a bit more sit down for a full on French experience. In the area there are some amazing eating and drinking experiences that I can explain in full. There's a lovely new Super U supermarket within walking distance, Tea Room, Pharmacy, Petrol Station, Post Office, Swimming Pool and Rugby pitch...Montreal is a proper working village, just 15 minutes from historic Carcassonne. Everywhere in the village is very walk-able - for the area generally you will need a car, although one nice thing to do is get a train to the beautiful Toulouse from nearby Bram.
