The Walnut Tree Gite is set in 1 hectare of land in a residential area of Le Dorat which gives it a country feel with all the benefits of being in a town, indeed the locals call it 'the park'! Feel free to wander, sit in the shade of one of our many trees, or laze on the terrace in a sun lounger after a dip in the pool. Easy walking and well lit by street lights to the facilities, supermarkets/bars/restaurants/cinema means you can leave the car behind if you want an evening out. The property itself has been completely renovated and provides clean, fresh comfort with some original features left to add character, but with a modern twist.
We opened for business in June 2019 and welcomed our first guests, after receiving a glowing review we felt that burst of pride for all our efforts and felt confident our gite provided everything (and maybe more) to grow in strength. We have had an amazing summer with mostly back-to-back bookings and promises of return bookings in the future.
The Haute Vienne offers a wide choice of places to see and things to do. Here in Le Dorat we have the 'Collegiale Saint-Pierre, an 11th century church steeped in history and attracts many tourists. Wander around the ancient city walls and pretty winding streets, and maybe take in a plat-de-jour for a relaxed lunch. we recommend visitors to take a trip to Lac de Saint-Pardoux a fabulous place to swim with inland beaches, swimming pool with water slides, cafe and free parking, plenty of shade under the trees to have a picnic sans sand! Oradour-sur-Glane (Village of Martyr's) is another popular place to visit being just 38k, very poignant and thought provoking. There are too many lovely villages, rivers and lakes to mention, many we come across by accident, stop and explore for a while and take in our surroundings. If you want lots of action and shops, then the large towns of Limoges and Poitiers are within an hours drive, or catch a train from our local station 10 minutes walk away!
