You’ll find our team hard at work in a traditional, converted stone carriage building in sleepy Elterwater, at the gateway of the stunning Great Langdale Valley. From here, we help people find all sorts of charming local hideaways, from converted barns to rambling stone-built parsonages. So whatever sort of Lake District break you’re looking for, give us a shout and we’ll use our in-depth local expertise to find you a place you’ll love.
Phone us and you’ll be talking to Denise, Helen, Pip or Julie – all with years of knowledge about what makes our region great. Whether you’re looking for walks, cream teas, paddling, peddling or paragliding, they’ll point you in the right direction. And if you need anything sorting out during your stay, just give us a buzz and our team of locally based housekeepers, handymen and problem solvers will be on it in a flash.
Best wishes, and take care.
The team at Wheelwrights Cottages
Property information
This lovely little cottage by the bridge in Elterwater has been completely renovated during 2022, with a modern open plan layout on the ground floor, including a well fitted kitchen area, living and dining, with a wood-burning stove. The 1st floor has two bedrooms (a double and a twin), and there is a modern shower room.
The house is the corner property of this lovely little terrace by the river and next to the bridge, with the garden at the front and around the side of the cottage. There is also an outbuilding which makes excellent storage for bikes and gear.
Elterwater is a very pretty village at the gateway into Langdale, and also where our office is located. Home to our favourite local pub the Britannia Inn, and also the wonderful cocktail bar Lanty Slees, a quick walk out of Elterwater towards Red Bank, located in the old Wayside Pulpit chapel. Over the bridge towards Colwith is The Eltermere Inn Country Hotel, which has a delightful bar and restaurant - something to treat yourselves to during your stay.
Langdale and Little Langdale is where all the best lumpy stuff is, so park your car up and walk from the village to enjoy some of the best walking in the Lake District.

Neighbourhood information
Elterwater is a pretty village in the Langdale valley which is about 5 miles from Ambleside. We consider the Langdale valley to be the heart of the Lake District - this is where all the lumpy stuff is, as well as the highest peak in England - Scafel Pike. There are fantastic views and excellent walking right from your doorstep.
There is a very good local pub called The Britannia, and a lovely little cocktail bar and restaurant called Lanty Slees, just a short walk away, as well as posher food at the Eltermere Inn Hotel to spoil yourself, and a local cafe called Slates that does freshly cooked pizzas etc, as well as teas, coffees and ales.
