'The Cabin' is a pretty two bedroom cottage on Mersea Island, near Colchester. A few steps from the sea on a much sought after quiet lane. There are great walks and bike rides either along the sea wall or on the beach, and some fantastic seafood eateries. We also have a kayak that you can hire during your stay. Mersea Island is the most easterly inhabited island in the UK, off the coast of Essex, 9 miles southeast of Colchester, just one hour from London. It has fast WiFi and good 4G.
We are a family of 5 and enjoy an active outdoor life, walking, cycling, riding, sailing and skiing. We love cooking and especially sea food. We live in the countryside and love an open fire and a good movie too! We know that when you go away comfort is of the utmost importance and are very fussy about what products and furniture we use in 'The Cabin', we hope you'll agree! We don’t live on the island but are always available to message or call on our phones and Emily our house manager lives on the island and has many useful contacts.
The Lane is a perfect base to explore the island and a very safe place for children as there is minimal traffic, everywhere (apart from East Mersea) is a short walk away. It is quiet and peaceful and we find it a total escape from our busy lives. There are some really lovely walks and bike rides from the front door, down to the water and along the sea wall, along the beach or the whole way around the island if your keen! We welcome well behaved medium sized dogs but not upstairs please. There is a bike rental shop on the island if you would rather not bring your own. Walk down to the well known 'Company Shed' or 'Dukes Fish Bar' for a seafood platter to take away or eat in with your own bottle of wine. Eat at 'The Coast Bar & Restaurant' or the newly renovated 'White Hart Hotel' in the village, all a walk away. The shops, restaurants, beach and coffee shops are a walk away, park your car in your designated parking space just outside the front door infant of the garage and enjoy a car free holiday or bring your bikes. Colchester Zoo is a fantastic day out for children and Colchester Castle always fun to visit especially if they are learning about the Romans and Boudica! There are also Local nature reserves and of course many sea birds to spot on the marshes.
