Riverside Retreat – Tents and Cabins by the Water Set beside a peaceful river, this relaxed campsite offers a back-to-nature escape with all the basics covered. Choose from 8 non-electric grass tent pitches or stay in one of two cosy Scandinavian-style softwood cabins, each sleeping up to 4 people.
Me? I live on a boat within paddling distance from the campsite. I've been here 3 years and living on the water has been one of my best decisions. Having backpacked as a young man (travel has been my companion all my life!), I have since lived in a log cabin for 2 years. So, I knew I could live on a boat when the inspiration came to me! I run with Maidstone River parkrun along the toepath most Saturdays, which is less than a 3 minute walk from the campsite. And I am currently learning to skipper the 'Kentish Lady', Maidstone-based river passenger boat cruises - (and I would fully recommend that!). One of the things that I recognise about myself, is that I love to share my experiences. Waking up to stunning views on the water is great on my own but I want others to not miss out on what I have been so lucky to enjoy! This may sound like a sound bite, but my friends and family would put you right on that! Look at the photos and decide for yourself if this is something for you! :)
Make the most of your riverside location with a variety of local attractions and activities just steps away: Kentish Lady Riverboat Cruises – Hop aboard for a scenic cruise into Maidstone or take the popular Fish & Chip tour to Teston and back (approx. 3 hours). Museum of Kent Life – Just a 3-minute stroll from the site, this open-air museum offers a fun and educational day out for all ages. Maidstone River parkrun – Join the friendly community 5k run every Saturday at 9am, just 3 minutes from your pitch. The Little Old Toll House Café – Enjoy a coffee or light bite at this charming riverside café, just a 20-second walk from the site. Allington Castle – Step into history with a guided tour via the Kentish Lady Riverboat (Tuesdays only, departing Maidstone). Malta Inn Beefeater Pub – A riverside pub just 2 minutes away serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with indoor and outdoor seating. Medway Canoe Trail – Paddle the scenic waterway right from your doorstep—perfect for kayakers, canoeists and paddle boarders looking to explore. With everything from culture and castles to cruises and cafés, there’s plenty to see and do—whether you're after activity or relaxation by the river.
