An old smuggling village, the ever-popular village of Thornham is a great base for a holiday right on the North Norfolk Coast. Wide expanses of salt marsh separate the village from the sea, making it is paradise for walkers and bird watchers. There are several great places to eat including Thornham Deli, selling all manner of local produce and great coffee, breakfasts and lunches; The Lifeboat Inn, an old smuggling haunt complete with heavy beams and roaring fires, good food and ales; and The Orange Tree, a lovely gastro pub which also boasts a dog menu. The Chequers has an a great vibe in the summer when delicious street food vendors park up on the sun terrace - the perfect accompaniment to the craft beers on offer - and dogs are welcome too!
Reached by a walk over the sea defences and salt marshes, Thornham beach is quite stunning, and you will be rewarded with total peace and quiet. Drove Orchards on the edge of Thornham offers seasonal PYO fruits plus farm shop with fruit and vegetables, butcher, cheese counter and other local produce. There are also a range of high quality local British food suppliers here, including Gurneys fresh fish, Eric’s Pizzas in a yurt, Eric’s Fish & Chips, East Coast Gelato Ice Cream Parlour, The Old Store microbakery and coffee shop, and VinedMe trendy wine bar. Neighbouring Brancaster Brancaster is famed for its vast, breath-taking sandy beach. The expanse stretches for miles, backed by gentle sand dunes and the famous links golf course of The Royal West Norfolk Golf Club.
