    Sue was welcoming & friendly. Very comfortable bed in a quiet, good value B&B. Breakfast was very good. Avondale House is a great base for exploring the area. There was lots of tourist information/leaflets available in the hall.

    Very nice and friendly owner. The room was clean and tidy, and the bed was big and comfy. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and biscuits in the room. Everything you need to stay overnight.

Sue & Steve have owned Avondale House for over 6 years and during that time they have completely restored and renovated this beautiful 19th century hunting lodge. Both Sue & I love to meet and greet our guests as though they were part of our family. You may arrive as a guest but we hope you leave as our friends.

Property information

Avondale House is owned and operated by Steve & Sue who offer a warm welcome as we like to treat our guests as family and nothing is to much trouble for you our guests. We also offer the option if you have a dog they are welcome as well. All our rooms have been freshly decorated to a high standard. We are less than five minutes from the railway station and close to all the shops and bars nearby. It is also close to the Highland wildlife park as well as the Highland Folk museum. We have some fantastic walks nearby as well as Ruthven Barracks a 13th century castle which is free to visit and walk round If you love birds the wildlife here is a must to see and enjoy. We would now like to wish you as our guest a very warm welcome at Avondale House and hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Neighbourhood information

Kingussie has attractions such as Ruthven Barracks which perched on a mount is a 13th century castle which you can walk around at no cost .This is a good 20 minute walk from our House and is a fantastic place to visit and discover this was the last castle that Bonnie Prince Charles visited before fleeing back to France. We also have Kingussie golf club which was established in the 1800's. Walks are plentiful here and you can walk over the hills to Loch Glynoch. Restaurants are plentiful whether you like fine dining or prefer takeaway food it is all available here. Nearby is the village of Newtonmore which has the Highland Folk museum set on 88 acres and covers houses and dwellings set uo for different time periods. Also demonstrations of Highland life and cooking demonstrations are a must. They also have an old fashioned sweet shop for those with a sweet tooth .Just outside Kingussie is the Highland wildlife safari park which has our famous polar bear Hamish who was the first polar bear to be born here. Next to us we have a horse riding school and can cater from experts to novice riders. Nearby is Loch Insh famous for its watersports as well as world class fishing
