B&B in a beautiful, secluded spot in the lakes. You are staying in the only house up at Blea Tarn. It is a fantastic house, with lots of space - we were expecting a room, but you have a full private lounge, bathroom and bedroom. Breakfast is...

Great rural retreat, high up above the green valley of Langdale. Your own space, with bedroom and bathroom up steep wooden stairs above living/dining room. Quite rustic, but bathroom is clean and modern and Starlink WiFi worked fine. Sue and Pat...

Lovely, historic home in an amazingly beautiful setting. Comfortable and clean quarters. Sue and Patrick were gracious and generous hosts, and the full Lakeland breakfast was a perfect start to a day of walking. I hope to return sometime!

We are located 200 metres away from the stunning Blea Tarn, where you can swim or paddleboard. The views from the house and garden are wonderful & there are some lovely places to sit in the garden and soak up the ambience. We welcome dogs - just let us know when you book but NO CATS (sorry). This is a walker’s paradise with great hikes from the door, including Scafell, England’s highest mountain, and Crinkle Crags which were one of Wainwright’s favourite walks. If you fancy something less challenging, there are lots of shorter walks which take in beautiful meadows, woodland and tarns. There are fantastic waterfalls nearby - Whorneyside Force, Skelwith Force and Colwith Force, as well as many fantastic wild swimming spots. There are quirky, beautiful local villages and churches which are definitely worth a visit including Chapel Stile, Ambleside, Hawkshead & Coniston. Your hosts, Sue & Pat, are a mine of useful information and will happily provide ideas for adventures to suit your individual preferences and needs. We have lots of guidebooks and maps which are available to consult or borrow. Sue can act as a guide - this needs to be booked in advance. At the end of the day, you can relax in the cosy sitting/dining room in front of the logburner stove. We have excellent internet connections or just chill out in the peaceful surroundings.
We have lived here for 8 years and love it! We both love walking and hiking with our dogs. We keep chickens and ducks, and also have a number of assorted rescue cats. We will take our lead from you, regarding interactions - we fully appreciate that everyone is different. We’ll always do our best to accommodate your individual needs.
We are in a remote location with no neighbours (except for a climbing club). We are also completely off-grid with our own generator. That means that we can't have electric kettles- but we will provide you with a big thermos urn so you can have multiple hot drinks (tea, coffee, herbal/fruit teas etc). There aren't any cooking facilities in the accommodation but we can store some items in our fridge, if needed. Our big breakfast will set you up for the day! The nearest shop is the Coop in Chapel Stile - about 2 miles away. They stock everything! There is no direct bus route to the house. The nearest stop is at the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel - just over a mile away. There is a very steep hill in between - if you need a lift up, Sue will come and get you. The nearest train station is at Windermere. Buses run between Windermere and the Old Dungeon Ghyll but you may have to switch buses at Ambleside. If you can, sit on the top deck from Windermere - the views are amazing! It's very quiet & peaceful here - you'll get a good night's sleep in your big, comfy bed.
