The Cow House would not have been a good place to stay 30 years’ ago. Then it was a milking place for cows and probably dates 300 years’ ago. We have converted it and it is now a comfortable, oak floored ,single story dwelling. The super- king bed and high quality linen is always remarked on. Because we are situated at 1000’ ( 350m) above sea level in a very rural area, we know how important it is to be warm and cosy, and the wood burner provides additional heat as well as CH and constant hot water. You can step out into a green, ancient landscape and walk for miles
Because we live on site, we like to meet our guests. I am English my husband is Scots. If you are interested, we can help by showing you good walk routes, decent pubs and we have maps and guide books on the shelves.
You will be within very easy reach of both the Lakes District, YorkshireDales and high Pennines. We are a rural community but with easy access to Kendal, Penrith, Keswick, Appleby in Westmorland and even the Scottish border at Gretna is only 40 mins north.
