The chalet was beautiful. We were greeted warmly with a basket of local goodies and shown around. The location was stunning, huge windows out on to the scapa flow and a great view of Hoy. The chalet was warm, clean and spacious.

Three Norwegian style semi-detached wooden chalets and recently renovated croft house situated on the A964 between Houton and Stromness in Orphir. Waterfront property on 20 acres of unspoilt land with stunning panoramic views of Hoy.
Kathy Bichan has been running this business for 20 years now and enjoys welcoming people of all nationalities. She has a true interest in everything going on in Orkney and is a wealth of information to her visitors.
Buxa Farm Chalets are a great central base for exploring the range of amazing historical sites like Maes Howe chambered tomb, complete with Viking graffiti, the Ring of Brodgar standing stones and stunning Broch of Gurness. A trip to Orkney must include a trip to the incredible Skara Brae prehistoric village, the best example of its type in Europe. It also boasts a fantastic visitor centre and a nice wee café. The local cheese platter is highly recommended. Head south over the Churchill Barriers and visit the Italian chapel made by Italian POWs during WWII and then visit the incredible Tomb of the Eagles. Go for a wander around Kirkwall town: see the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral and Orkney museum or explore some of the independent shops, cafes and restaurants on the High Street. Take a trip to the dramatic cliff-top tidal island of Brough of Birsay. This was once the ancient Oradian seat of power. Check the tides to ensure a safe time for crossing! Head to The Brig Larder on Albert Street in Kirkwall and pick up some local goodies, like fresh seafood, butcher meat, cheeses, ice cream, produce, wines, spirits and beers, all under one roof.
