Our family have farmed at Barrock Mains for more than 50 years. In 2018 an opportunity to introduce a new holiday business on our beautiful, south facing farm was discussed . This idea became a reality in the autumn of 2019 when Caithness View opened for business. Our vision was to offer very attractive and spacious luxury ‘glamping style’ lodges. We wanted visitors to not only stay in one of the best locations on the farm with uninterrupted views, but also to have very comfortable holiday accommodation. Our guests to date have confirmed that our vision has become a reality with the most wonderful comments being made, making our farm diversification efforts all the more worthwhile. Visitors often refer to the lodges as being spacious, peaceful and cosy and the fact that there is an extra bedroom is very much appreciated. Little extras like a built-in breakfast bar and full length viewing window provide a special touch inside the lodges. Outside, the dining table and benches on each spacious balcony allows guests to have a drink or a meal outside and enjoy the amazing view. The private, good sized BBQs huts are a great space to 'eat out' all year round!
Caithness View Luxury Farm Lodges are not only close to the John O’ Groats and the spectacular Caithness coastline, they are also close to the county’s main towns of Wick and Thurso. The area has some great attractions and some beautiful walks on the doorstep. Dunnet Beach and Forest, The Castle of Mey, Stacks of Duncansby, Lyth Art Centre, Wick Heritage Centre, Distilleries and day trips to Orkney. On the Farm itself, there is always plenty happening from shearing the sheep in June to ploughing the fields in the winter. Visitors are welcome to observe farm activities and are also very welcome to visit the historical brochs whilst exploring the many acres of farmland. An hour’s walk from the lodges, heading west on the farm, brings you to Oalston House. The views here are inspirational and only the sound of the Lapwing (Shochadh) and Curlew can be heard. The farm has two rivers on the lower east and south boundaries. There are fish in the river and occasionally an otter or herring can be seen. Why not come and experience this peaceful, relaxing, comfortable place and, if you would like to, get a little experience of farm life too!
