The location was a bit farther from the town centre but it was fun being away from all the noise. A nice place to chill and reset.

Company information

Edmund, owner of Chiddinglye, was raised at Chiddinglye when it was a mixed dairy farm with pigs and chickens and four full time farmworkers. He has lived and worked as a diplomat, lawyer and venture capitalist in France, Senegal, Jordan, Russia and Dubai before moving back to Sussex in 2006. Since then Chiddinglye has transformed from a dairy farm into a diversified and regenerative estate with renewables, woodchip, weddings, beer and glamping. Edmund hopes that glamping visitors of all ages will experience the same feelings of wonder in this unique High Weald landscape that he felt as a child.

Property information

Chiddinglye is a private estate set in 320 acres of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), situated on the watershed of the Ouse and Medway with 20 mile views in either direction across to the South and North Downs. Yet it is only 35 miles from Hyde Park Corner and 20 miles north of Brighton. Each Pod has a standard double bed, a small kitchen and dining area, and an en-suite shower room with all bedding, towels and crockery supplied. They have underfloor heating and are fully insulated making Glamping an all year-round option. Each pod has an outdoor picnic table, a fire pit for a BBQ or open fire and a wood-fired hot tub. Pods 1 – 3 have double bed plus sofa bed and two additional children’s bunk beds so they can sleep up to six. Pods 4 – 9 have a double bed and sofa bed sleeping up to four. Pod 10 is the Bridal Suite with just one double bed. Dogs are allowed in Pods 1 – 5.

Neighbourhood information

Pod visitors will have freedom to access all 320 acres of Chiddinglye except for private gardens (available by arrangement). There are many things to do without ever leaving the estate. Visit the Missing Link Brewery open Friday to Sunday, which produces award winning craft beers and cider and apple juice from our own orchard. The Tap Room (open Thurs-Sun) and Beer Garden are located just five minutes walk from the pods. Visit the Kitchen Garden. The old Victorian kitchen garden is now managed by Tom Morphew of the Garden Army, a Community Investment Club. Pod visitors can visit the gardens and buy fresh organic produce direct from the soil. Get Tom's details from the Taproom. Hike around Chiddinglye Estate. Chiddinglye has been in higher level stewardship for many years and is rich in local wildlife including the Sussex big five (deer (fallow, roe and muntjac) fox, badger, squirrel and rabbit). There are many songbirds, pheasants and birds of prey including kites, buzzards, kestrels and sparrow hawks. There is ancient woodland and pasture, three stands of Californian redwoods, and spectacular bluebells in the spring. Book a nature or foraging walk with our ranger Ross. Details in the Tap Room Book a Celtic metalwork or forging skills course with our onsite heritage blacksmith Simon Summers. Details in the Tap Room
