Everything about the house was perfect, we loved how quiet it was at night. The beds were probably the most comfortable beds we had stayed in. Host was great and always on hand if we required anything. Would definitely stay here again.

The house is full with supplies, you will find everything what you have at home, the only thing you need to bring are your clothes. We stayed 11 nights and couldn't play with all the toys and use all the outdoor equipments.

Accessed by a long private drive, Cowden Farmhouse lies in the heart of our own farmland and enjoys tremendous peace and privacy, with the only neighbours being our herd of Icelandic Horses and a motley crew of pet sheep! The extensive gardens and grounds are well equipped with plenty of seating choices, hammocks, swings, garden games, a firepit and a large gas bbq - all perfect for enjoying the beautiful far-reaching views and the incredible background. chorus of birdsong. However, it’s not just the outside spaces which are wonderful to be in - the interior of the house has been designed to be a fun, uplifting and comfortable environment. As a designer and maker of all things unusual, I have furnished the house with many of my own unique and original creations - from large statement feather mirrors and lampshades to table lamps made fashioned from the old air filters out of our combine harvester! Sumptuous textures and rich colours create a warm and welcoming feeling - enhanced by the 2 log burning stoves in the public rooms. (There is also oil-fired central heating throughout!) Cowden Farmhouse has been thoughtfully equipped with everything our guests could require, ensuring an uncomplicated home from home experience. Whilst having the feeling of ‘getting away from it all’, the activities and amenities of Stonehaven are just a 15 minute drive away. The UK’s most northerly lido, Dunnottar Castle - one of Scotland’s most iconic castles, sandy beaches and award winning eateries are just some of the attractions which make this harbour town a ‘must see’. Aberdeen, Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms (amongst many more visitor attractions) are within easy reach for a great day out - although many of our guests barely leave Cowden Farmhouse, finding it has everything they’re looking for in the perfect family or friend group holiday!
Cowden Farmhouse is part of our family farm - run by me, (Liz) my husband and 2 adult children. Whilst it’s largely me that’s responsible for looking after Cowden and our guests, the farm is very much a family affair! The big jobs such as moving the sheep, clipping and lambing, or the activities at harvest time, involve all hands on deck! There’s always something happening, and we’re very happy to involve guests if they so wish. Although not always easy, I try to find a bit of spare time to ride my Icelandic Horse, and also make exciting new creations in my craft studio - some of which can be spotted around Cowden Farmhouse! My ambition was to provide family and friend groups with the best holiday they could possibly have at Cowden, and judging from our fantastic reviews and repeat bookings, I’d say ‘mission accomplished’!
This part of Scotland is unsurpassed for having it all! In the morning you can be on the stunningly beautiful golden sands of St Cyrus beach, or marvelling at the breathtaking Dunnottar Castle, and in the afternoon you can be in the rugged mountains of the Cairngorms, or playing a round on a world class golf course. For a holiday location which truly offers something for everyone, Cowden Farmhouse is perfectly placed!
