Company information

Dacre House is a new B&B venture and we are excited to share our beautiful home with guests. It is important that we provide you with a luxurious experience yet maintain stewardship of our beautiful countryside, support our local communities and minimise the impact of our activities. Our ethos - 'Rural Comfort Responsible Chic' signals our intent and we welcome your support in our approach..

Property information

Built in 1860, Dacre House has served many purposes, Temperance Hotel, Board Residence, Tea Rooms and Antique Shop. In Summer 2022 we re-opened to provide luxury bed and breakfast accommodation for visitors to Gilsland. Out of our 4 rooms, our family room can be modified with 2 folding single beds to offer multiple occupancy such as twin, treble or quadruple (whilst our single beds can be used by adults we recommend they are best suited to children). We can also add a folding bed to room 3 - so contact us for more room options if you don't find what you need. We provide secure cycle storage and car parking, but space is limited so please let us know you intend to bring a bicycle or come in your car. Dogs are allowed throughout the property. We are licensed and provide a bar on site for your use. We try to cater for all dietary requirements and to use wherever possible local suppliers for your breakfast selection. We attempt to eradicate single use plastic wherever we can and offer re-usable, recyclable and compostable options in everything we provide.

Neighbourhood information

The quiet village of Gilsland is nestled on the Northumberland/Cumbria border with the Hadrian's Wall trail passing the front door. The village amenities include a pub and pub/restaurant and a tea room. Nearby is Poltross Burn Milecastle, Willowford Roman bridge and Birdoswald Fort. There are many varied walking , cycle routes from our door as well as the Pennine Way close by. You can explore the largely undiscovered Northumbrian countryside or with a short drive the beautiful and historic coastline.
