Providence House is delightful Grade II listed property in Bideford, North Devon, understood to date back to Victorian era. There is a walled, secure, private back garden for dogs. It’s 10 minutes from dog friendly beaches and surf schools as well as being within walking distance of Bideford town. Mill street in Bideford offers a range of local shops, restaurants and cafes.
The house is set over three floors with 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms (one with a bath) and an additional toilet downstairs :
Ground floor has a kitchen with a dining room set just off to the side, which was once a stable, along with a downstairs toilet. There is a separate living room with two sofas, sky tv and log burner.
First floor includes three bedrooms (1 king sized bed, 1x twin room and 1x single), all benefiting from great views over the river Torridge. There is also a family bathroom on this floor.
The second floor is an attic room that you are welcome to use how you wish. This is a great space for kids to hangout or a quiet space for writing, drawing, art, yoga, or just relaxing and reading.

The Area:
Providence House is a short walk of the historic town of Bideford, which offers a wide range of amenities including many independent shops, butchers, a greengrocer, cafes, and some lovely little restaurants.
There is access to the Tarka Trail from Bideford, which has lovely walks with your dogs or cycle rides.
Beaches - There are two beaches of identical distance away at around 3 miles (10 mins drive). Both are dog friendly. You can have surf lessons at Westward Ho! Beach.
Westward Ho! has a spectacular 3 mile golden sandy beach looking west across to the island of Lundy. The beach adjoins Burrows Country Park and The Royal North Devon Golf Course. Dogs are welcome on the beach, but just check which areas in peak seasons.
For four legged friends, we would recommend Instow Beach. This is a small village on the mouth of the estuary and is very popular with dog owners. Instow has 4 great pubs/restaurants, and cafes that are all dog friendly.
Other fantastic beaches along the North Devon coastline are also worth a visit including; Saunton Sands, Croyde, Woolacombe and Putsborough.
You can also take an amazing day trip out to Lundy Island from Bideford Quay (again, walking distance). You can swim with seals, snorkel, scuba dive or enjoy the beauty on land.
For golfers, there are two fantastic links courses; Royal North Devon Golf Club which is 10 minutes from Providence House and Staunton Sands Golf Course.
Victoria Park is another great place to visit and is a 10 minute or so walk. This is lovely family park including:
- A large open air children’s paddling pool
- Burton Art Gallery and Cafe
- Two childrens play areas
- Table Tennis
- Table Games
- Full size football pitch
