Forda Farm Bed and Breakfast is on a small family run farm close to the market town of Holsworthy and the coastal town of Bude. Roddy and Val have lived here for twenty eight years now and keep sheep and beef. We also have 2 working dogs, a number of cats and 4 grown up children. Forda Farm Bed and Breakfast lies of a small parish road, in it’s own secluded valley where peace and tranquility are at a premium and wildlife is plentiful. Val, Roddy and family invite you to stay in their home, which is more than 300 years old, and take every care to spoil you. Forda is probably named after the crossing point of the stream that forms our boundaries so both the bedrooms have been named after one of the local rivers. The bedrooms are warm, welcoming and decorated with co-ordinating furniture and fabrics. A television and beverage tray can also be found in each room with a small selection of basic toiletries. Scottish Tablet ( made by your host ) adds the finishing touch. We aim to make you feel at home. We are ideally suited to explore the North Devon and Cornish coast. We provide home cooked Evening Meals ( on request and for additional charge. ) A pack lunch can also be ordered ( for a small charge ). All guests can have a tour around the farm or take themselves out for a walk. We have many local history books, walking and cycling route maps. Please request these.
We have farmed at Forda Farm bed and Breakfast since 1997. Both our sons now work on the farm in their free time. You are welcome to take a guided tour of the farm. We offer a cream tea on arrival. Breakfast is included in the price. We have a flock of pedigree Charollais sheep which we have bred on the farm now since 1998. These lamb around the New Year. We also have 90 young calves in around late August to feed on milk so the farm is always a busy place. The main flock of sheep lamb, in March and April. In May and June we are busy shearing the sheep and making silage for the winter. We have 2 working sheep dogs and a number of farm cats and kittens too. NONE of our animals live in the house.
Holsworthy is a small market town close to the North Devon and Cornwall border. It holds a week long fair in July named after St. Peter with the revealing of the pretty maid on Wednesday at 12p.m on the church steps who then goes around with the portreeve and opens the fair. Live music plays every evening on the stage with the main band usually being on the Saturday evening. Holsworthy Show is held in late August. This year's show will be on Thursday the 28th of August 2025. Bude Jazz festival will be held between August 26th and 29th Holsworthy Carnival is in late October. Bude and Widemouth Bay (which now is a blue flag beach) are around 13 -15 miles away and you can find some surf schools at both to learn or improve your surfing skills. The South West Coast Path is of course spectacular and a must for those wanting to take a stroll or have a longer walk with stunning scenery. Boscatle, Tintagel and the Eden Project are all worth a visit in Cornwall or why not take a trip to R.H.S. Rosemoor, Clovelly or Arlington Court one of the National Trust properties in North Devon. Dartmoor and Exmoor and Bodmin all offer something a little different. From Walking to cycling, railways to geo-caching to Tor's and wildlife there should be something for all. Tamar lake, offers sailing, cycling and 5k Park Runs for the more enthusiastic but is also a beatiful place for a stroll or a lovely cup of tea and cake at the cafe. The beaches of Bude and Widemouth Bay are nearby where you can learn to surf.
