    The property and the location,. Convenient for the town and an ideal base for the stages we walked on the South West coastal path. The house is fitted out to a high standard, kitchen, sitting room, bedrooms and bathrooms all well appointed.

The house has been the subject of an imaginative and extensive revamp which means the pleasant but plain exterior hides a light-filled, stylish and comfortable place to stay. The views out over the whole harbour are superb and we have private parking for two cars, which is a rarity in St Mawes. There is a dining deck straight off the kitchen and onto the south-facing garden. It is about 4-5 minutes on foot down the hill to the harbour/quay/ and another couple to St Mawes' little beaches. It is a very short but steep hill so a good workout with a buggy. There is a very eclectic mix of housing on our little no-through road - a run of pretty Victorian villas, then a stretch of a dozen or so pleasant but plain council and ex-council houses, (of which this is one - extended and revamped), then some lovely properties at the end. The old fishing cottages certainly have more charm externally, but they very rarely have parking (or big windows, or high ceilings).... The house (and most of the village) is set onto a steep hillside which curves around the bay. The walk down to the harbour is short, but steep. Areas around the house have short drops, mostly with railings but not completely child-proof and you need to supervise small children. It is sadly unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. PLEASE NOTE that we do not accept more than three children or more than five adults within any party (max six people overall). STOP PRESS!! Just been awarded a 2025 Travellers' Review Award by booking dot com - 9.5 out of 10 overall score last year. Yippee!!
Retired professional now with grand-children who love this place too. This is our holiday home too, and after a life in travel, I find it hard to beat.
St Mawes is an exceptionally pretty village on a sheltered curving bay open to the sea. You can opt to stay put for your whole stay and it will provide pretty much everything you need, especially for adults or families with younger children. Not a great deal going on in the evenings for teenagers... Some great places to visit fairly close by: fabulous gardens at Trewithen, the Lost Gardens of Heligan or the Eden Project. And a day out to St Ives? You just have to go to Falmouth on the ferry - fun shops and cafes there too as well as a National Maritime Museum. Lovely coastal walks and some top class dining rooms in the local hotels (start saving now...) And our house is a great place to come back to!
