Our furniture is mostly antique and we are very keen on sustainable living in harmony with nature and keep our use of chemicals to an absolute minimum. Our main source of heating in the winter is firewood harvested from our own woodland. The house is on a 100 acre private estate, itself part of a stunningly beautiful small sheltered valley. Half of the land is mature broadleaf woodland. The fields are all managed organically for beef, lambs and wildlife. We grow vegetables outside and in polytunnels. Three orchards provide fruit in summer and autumn. You are free to pick whatever takes your fancy.
I are passionate about sustainable living, and that includes organic farming and using locally sourced materials and food wherever possible. I don't like plastics and harmful chemicals. There is a wealth of wildlife on the farm, and I am always thinking of ways to improve habitats here, such as tree planting and pond creation, that buck the globally dismal trends. I have found the peace and tranquility at Gernos conducive to meditation and creativity (I am a songwriter, among other things) and my hope is that you are able to imbibe something of this during your stay here.
You will enjoy complete tranquility here because there is no significant traffic within a mile and a half, and seclusion, because the farmhouse is surrounded by our woods. Our friends at Da Mhile distillery and Teifi Cheese next door (I lie, it is a 15 minutes hike through the woods) will be pleased to provide you with nationally acclaimed cheeses, gins and liqueurs. There is no cellphone signal, which we like, but wifi is available in much of the house. We try to be plastic free and use ecofriendly cleaning materials whenever possible. The renowned Llangrannog and Penbryn beaches are 8 miles away.
