Property information

The renovation of this old miner’s house has been a two year labour of love for the family, as you can see in the photographs. We love it and are delighted to be able to share this extraordinary location with our visitors. Santley Farm is a 260 acre grassland farm in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Beyond one immediate neighbour close to the house, Santley Farmhouse is situated in the middle of the farm, accessed by a single lane tarmac road (with numerous passing points). This is a rural and extremely quiet location with a footpath running beside the house so it is extremely easy to explore. Footpaths can take you direct to the Stiperstones (or Carneddau Teon in Welsh) - a distinctive quartzite rock of ridge formed 480 million years ago, which is clearly visible from the house. With names like Devil’s Chair and Shepherd’s Rock the stones are seeped in myths and folklore. Our herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle will be in the fields during the summer months and in the big agricultural barns you have to pass to reach the house in the winter. With sheep too, visiting dogs will need to be under control and kept on the footpaths for their own safety; this is a working farm. Beyond the walking, hiking and biking, Santley Farmhouse is 30 minutes from Shrewsbury (and its award winning market hall, restaurants and shopping), 45 minutes from Ludlow (and its extraordinary architecture, castle and culture), and just over an hour and a half from Borth Beach in Wales (the longest sandy beach in Ceredigion with its three miles of golden sand). So with the border castles and golf courses too, there is much to do when based at Santley Farm. We also have a cupboard full of games, a great kitchen and a wood burning stove, so you may choose to simply enjoy the house and garden with its wonderful views.
