You'll love this unique and romantic escape. Set behind fully private, electric gates in a quiet village. The Hayloft Barn is a newly converted first floor, Victorian barn where every care has been taken to retain the character whilst providing comfort and luxury for a relaxing stay. You will find a kingsize bed, roll top bath, huge walk in shower, chesterfield sofa's, smart tv and a fully equipped kitchen. Suitable for well behaved dogs, fully enclosed private garden with BBQ and fire pitThe conversion of the Hayloft Barn was completed in late August 2023, meaning that everything is brand new and finished to the highest standard. This first floor, self catered barn has been beautifully restored and provides a light, airy and luxurious place to stay. Situated in the beautiful village of Thistleton, Rutland, we are just 8 miles from Oakham and 11 miles from both Melton Mowbray and the stunning Georgian town of Stamford, making it the ideal spot to explore Rutland and the surrounding area. We see it as the the perfect getaway to enjoy the area, celebrate an occasion, a visit to family or friends and with its easy access to to A1 ( 2 miles), a great stop over to break up a journey or place to commute for work in Peterborough, Stamford, Oakham, Uppingham, Grantham or Melton Mowbray. The area has so much to offer, Rutland Water, Burghley Park, Belvoir Castle, Belton House, Rockingham Castle to name but a few and is bursting with fabulous garden centres, cafes and well stocked farm shops. Walking and cycling are very popular within Rutland, and the area has a great selection of village pubs to re-fuel at. There is a wonderful selection of great places to eat, and if you are looking for a really special meal, the Michelin starred Olive Branch at Clipsham is just a 5 minute drive away, or the George at Stamford and Hambeleton Hall on the Rutland Peninsula are also highly recommended. Accessed via a wide, shallow, stone built staircase. EV charging available .
I live on-site with my husband Alex, 3 children and 2 whippets, so will be on hand should you need any assistance at all. Our aim is for you to have a relaxing and enjoyable stay and for you to be as charmed by all the property has to offer as we are. The property has a keypad for self check-in, details will be sent over before check-in. I will also be on hand via telephone if needed. The Hayloft Barn was built in 1882 as part of Thistleton Grange and was originally a Victorian coach house, with stable stall partitions, used to house the coach horses. The area above was used to store hay and feed. When we moved here in 2020, we were charmed by the old beams and high ceiling, and thought that with some blood, sweat and tears, we could create a wonderful place for guests to stay. We began by this conversation in October 2022 and in late August 23, finish the Hayloft barn as you see it now. We have tried to re-use and preserve as many of the original materials as possible to retain the c haracter and history of the barn. The new staircase was built from our old stone courtyard wall, along with the blue stamped capping stones, even the slabs which make the treads formed the courtyard patio. The end staircase pillars were discovered in the ground when we dug in front of the stables and the stable partition that makes up the backdrop of the kitchen, spent 140 years in the stables. If you look carefully, you will see where the coach horses have been chewing it! We converted the saddle racks to lights and re-purposed the bridle hooks. The garden footpath was once the utility room floor and the slate in the window cills and in front of the french door was from the old dairy in the main house. Its a bit quirky, but we hope by doing this we have kept the charm of the building and that it will still be standing strong in another 140 years to come.
Thistleton is a small, quiet village surrounded by beautiful Rutland countryside. There are some fantastic places to walk and explore, and lots of the cafe's and pubs in Rutland are very dog friendly. The local villages have a good selection of local pubs serving great food and amenities such a village shops, farm shops and cafes. Just 10 mins away, the striking Georgian town of Stamford is bursting with character, boutique shops and a brilliant selection of places to eat and drink, not to mention the historic Burghley House and its amazing gardens and parkland. A visit to Rutland Water is also a must, a 10 minute drive gives so many options, from walking, cycling,(2 cycle hire centres) fishing, sailing, watersports, aqua park, open water swimming, nature reserve and mini golf, there is lots on offer. Barnsdale gardens, Stapleford park, Belton House, Belvoir Castle, Rockingham Castle, the market town of Oakham, Grimthorpe Castle and Fineshade woods are all great places to visit from The Hayloft.
