Company information

Marton Grange is owned by Paul & Janice Goddard. Janice is a retired schoolteacher (Head of Science) and Paul is a retired Pharmacist. We have both had professions where we had to have an eye for detail which helps enormously with how we present our Guest House business. Our philosophy is that while we are at home, we are happy to accept guests but we do have occasional away days and holidays when we close the house. Because this is our home, we're usually here all of the time, except when we're out attending to business (i.e. shopping),so we're available to guests at anytime during their stay with us (between 20.00 and 07.00 for emergencies please).

Property information

Marton Grange Country House has been our home for over seven years since we moved to the East Coast from West Yorkshire. Previously we've been accredited a 5* rating but following this year's inspection, we've been pleased to accept the AA's 5* Silver Guest Accommodation award, which puts us amongst the top rated B&Bs in the country. We try our hardest to keep a homely feel to the house, so you won't see notices around unless they're statutory H&S. We open up our own lounge and dining room to our guests (we move into a self contained flat when we have guests staying). Many guests comment as to how warm the house is especially during the colder months and the colder evenings - as the main part of the house was constructed in the early 1800s and consequently has thick external walls, with the double glazing (where we are allowed) plus our biomass boiler we have an A rating for the energy efficiency of the building. We have 11 guest bedrooms, seven Premier Rooms in the old Georgian part of the house (4 with high ceilings) and four Classic Rooms in the recently extended part of the house.

Neighbourhood information

Marton Grange has the best of all worlds in respect of it's location, with the Yorkshire Wolds countryside, Flamborough Head and Bridlington beaches being close by. We're often asked by guests if we would consider providing evening meals, but unfortunately our domestic kitchen doesn't have the range of appliances we would need to do this. However there are a couple of local pubs and the restaurant at the local golf club within short walking distance, and for those willing to take a 2 to 5 minute car journey, there are many pubs and restaurants providing great food. When you book with us, we'll always send you a personalised email with directions and an attachment which gives an idea of the places to eat out at. Please take a moment to read though this when you receive it.
