Inverness, the Highlands' administrative centre, serves as a portal to the region's many attractions. The steep coastal cliffs, dense lochs, vast forests, and towering peaks are all within driving distance. The renowned Loch Ness, which is surrounded by stunning natural beauty but is frequently visited by those seeking something else entirely, is a must-see. Culloden Moor, site of the city's namesake battle, lies on the outskirts (National Trust). A trip across the field where the final major battle fought in Britain took place is a sombre reminder of the lives lost by the clansmen. The display depicting the event won an award.
