I have had my holiday let in Coniston since 2014. I love the lake district and everything it has to offer. With my husband and three children we enjoy fell walking, cycling, swimming and as many outdoor activities as possible.
Coniston is a charming village located in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. It is situated near the picturesque Coniston Water, which is the third largest lake in the Lake District. The area is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, and those seeking a tranquil escape. Here are some points of interest and things to do in and around Coniston: Coniston Water: The lake itself is a major attraction, offering opportunities for boating, sailing, kayaking, and fishing. There are several boat hire options available, allowing you to explore the lake at your own pace. The Old Man of Coniston: This is one of the most famous landmarks in the area. The Old Man is a distinctive mountain with a height of 803 meters (2,634 feet). Hiking to the summit provides breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Bluebird Cafe: Situated near Coniston Water, the Bluebird Cafe is a popular spot to enjoy a meal or a cup of tea while enjoying views of the lake and the Coniston Fells. Steam Yacht Gondola: A restored Victorian steam-powered yacht, offering leisurely cruises on Coniston Water, providing a glimpse into the area's transportation history. Tarn Hows: A picturesque and easy walk from Coniston, Tarn Hows is a stunning small lake surrounded by woodlands, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll and a picnic. In addition to the attractions in Coniston itself, the village serves as a great base for exploring the wider Lake District National Park. Nearby towns like Ambleside, Windermere, and Hawkshead are all worth visiting and offer their own set of activities, restaurants, and historic sites. Overall, Coniston and its surroundings provide a perfect mix of natural beauty, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and opportunities to relax and unwind in one of England's most stunning regions.
