We came here in connection with my wife's work. There is no other reason to visit. Its a boring, unmemorable little town, made somewhat pleasant by its leafy character and the proximity of the countryside. There is more to do in neighbouring Newbury, but it too is flawed by poor town planning, busy roads and a poor quality cultural hub. The only place I really liked was Shaw House, which is used mainly as a conference centre, so that people interested in its history have to make sure its open before visiting.

Thatcham is not exactly a 'destination'!
Thatcham is not exactly a 'destination'! It is a working town with good rail links and very handy for the A4. My friend & I were fishing the River Kennet very close by which made this town convenient. There are a number of pubs in town but unfortunately Covid issues meant none seemed to be serving evening meals. There were several restaurants & plenty of fast food joints.

Just an overnight stop to visit Highclere Castle on our journey home from a holiday. Comfortable hotel, warm, which was important as we stayed in December. Nice sized comfortable room, good breakfast. Pleasant helpful staff in all areas. Hotel is in a quiet area but close enough to get to Newbury if needed, or just 5 minutes away from other places to eat in the evening.

Very short staffed.
Very short staffed. Temp staff didn't know how to book people in. When we got into the room after about 30 mins it smelt musty and damp. One window only on a very hot day was not good.
I asked for a fan.... they dont have any! Very bad nights sleep.
Breakfast was the best thing about the stay, very nice.
Not in a hurry to return anytime soon!

The staff were friendly and efficient.
The staff were friendly and efficient. The breakfast was very good.
The room was dark and the lighting was inadequate.
The room was very dusty, the bed moved in all directions.
The shower was not very good, it is the only time I have had to kneel while taking a shower.
The shelf in the bathroom was not level so everything slid off.
The property was modern, clean, comfortable and in a great location for our needs.
we have stopped here twice for work, but I wouldn’t hesitate to take my family to these apartments.
Thatcham is a really nice place and the people that live locally are very nice.
we will definitely stay here again and the host is professional in arranging everything for the stay to be enjoyed.
Thanks for the relaxed stay.
I was booked in for one night (16 March) as I was working in Thatcham the following morning. After working in Birmingham on the morning of the 15th I was travelling down to Thatcham when I received a call from the Swan saying they were cancelling my reservation due to a booking mix up. This was 2 hours before check in so they must have realised there was a mix up long before I received the call.
The staff were all very helpful, the hotel was ideally located for the wedding we were attending, the room was spacious, the breakfast was good value with a wide selection and the bed was very comfy. There were plenty of places to sit to have a drink and a chat, and the free tea and coffee machine was a welcome surprise.
Room was spacious with the added extras that made it both functional & comfortable. The hotel also noted my polite request for a quiet room with a view.
As I was travelling on my own, I was also made to feel safe staying there & the manager/receptionist Richard was always helpful, cheerful & courteous.
All staff were very friendly, particularly the lady who served us breakfast on Sunday morning.
This is our 2nd stay here - we sometimes attend events in Thatcham and The Swan is ideal for an overnight stay.
The breakfast was excellent. Our main meal was very good. The beer was also excellent.
wonderful setting with lovely views. A traditional English B&B with a very friendly host. it’s charming and quirky. a very welcome change to the corporate hotels I find myself in far too often.
Nice ckean hotel nice grounds with in the hotel very nice breakfast. We booked 2 rooms but when checking in they only had one available. So 4 people had to share.
The apartment was very nice and clean. beyond my expectations. My team and myself will be booking here again next year for the victorian market in Newbury.
