Local Amenities
Your nearest convenience store for bread, milk and other essentials is Nisa on Hawton Road. Turn left out of the main gate and it is approx 1 ½ miles further on the left side. If you prefer locally sourced produce, Hardy’s Farm Shop is approx. 1 ½ miles away and can be found by heading towards Hawton Village, turn left at Hawton Church and it is approx. ½ mile ahead. If you’re looking for a supermarket, Newark has an Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose in town.
Places to visit
Belvoir Castle is a 25 minute drive away and opens its Castle Grounds; and at certain times of the year the Castle itself is open to visitors, providing a really lovely day out. The walks are breath taking with some stunning views and the Engine Yard provides a perfect place to stop, refuel for food and meander the many independent shops. If you fancy a cocktail’ day or night the Balloon Bar is a really quirky, beautifully designed space that is well worth a visit.
Newark Upon Trent
Being an old market town, Newark holds plenty of history. It has a museum, a fully working lock along the River Trent and the Castle Grounds are open to the public. The town hosts a number of market days in the square including Collectors and Antiques Market on Monday (except bank holidays) and Friday; and General Retail market on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The Market Square has a selection of independent cafes and bistros to sit outside and often there is live music playing to sit and enjoy whilst devouring your coffee and cake.
If you’d like a City day out, both Nottingham and Lincoln are a half hour car journey away or you can hop on a train from either Newark Castle or Newark Northgate and be at either City in half an hour.
Nottingham has many shops, bars, restaurants that you’d expect from a large City; but also plenty of history with the Lace Market, Nottingham Castle & Tales of Robin Hood. If a night out is what’s needed you can guarantee the night life.
