Stunning, fully furnished, renovated 200 year old grade 2 listed barn situated in the village of Alhampton, Castle Cary, Somerset, 1 mile from Castle Cary station and 2 miles from the centre of Castle Cary. Also the Barn is 4 miles from Bruton, and 12 miles from Wells and Sherborne. It provides very private, spacious and comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation. The interior has original (uneven) flagstone and cobbled floor, limed walls and original roof beams. King sized bed, cotton bed linen, private entrance and door to garden seating and access to the gardens. Large woodburner, off road parking (with open garage if wanted), free wifi and TV/DVD player with DVD library. En suite shower room, walk in shower with Bramley toiletries (made in Mells, Somerset). Full continental style breakfast is delivered on a tray to the Barn at the time of your choosing and includes locally sourced Barbers cheddar cheese, homemade bread, freshly baked croissants and fresh fruit.
The Barn is situated on our property close by the main house. We believe in making our guests very welcome in person and leaving them alone to enjoy the complete privacy provided by the Barn; nevertheless, we are on hand to help in any was we can. Guests have direct, private access to a large garden and seating area from which to enjoy breakfast in the morning sunshine. We are a very short walking distance from the local pub, the Alhampton Inn, and surrounded by a multitude of walks across open countryside. In the winter you are able to enjoy the wood burner, which provides a cosy environment with DVD and TV in the room. John and Jeffy have lived in Somerset for many years and at Amberwell for five years during which time they have restored their cottage and the barn. John is retired after many years in the Royal Navy and Jeffy is a long established commercial artist who has a working studio in the main house.
In rural surroundings we are close to Paul Nichols Racing, the world renowned Barbers Cheddar Cheese and Charles Dowding's the well known author and agricologist . Evidence of this is all around with exercising race horses and herds of cattle in well managed farm land. We are also within easy reach of Castle Cary Railway Station (1 mile away), and only 45 minutes from Bristol Airport. During your stay, subject to availability, we can arrange visits to meet local craftspeople to see how they work; a flute maker, a leatherworker, bookbinder and embroidered textile artist. We are within easy reach of Bruton at 4 miles with the Hauser Wirth Gallery, The Newt in Somerset at Castle Cary, Stourhead Estate, Longleat, Sherborne and Wells. Not to mention a plethora of walking trails both directly from the Barn or a short driving distance away. In addition to Stourhead House there are a number of National Trust properties in the area such as Lytes Cary and Montacute House.
