Company information

Robert Lyons the chef/owner was 17 years Head Chef for renowned TV chef John Tovey at Miller Howe Hotel in Windermere where he met his partner Lesley Wheeler. The Bay Horse has been their home for 28 years and it has retained its old fashioned charm fro its coaching inn days when folk would rest up before making the perilous journey across the Morecambe Bay sands to Lancaster by horse and coach. Today, you can still watch the tide race in.

Property information

Although the approach is somewhat odd (one has to pass by a chemical works which has been here for the past 60 years and is now undergoing huge landscaping improvements, you will be sure to receive a warm welcome once reaching The Bay Horse. In winter, a log fire is lit throughout the day in the bar where you can keep warm and cosy and enjoy a selection of Hot Beverages or a warming mulled cider or wine. In summer, the views are amazing, there is plenty of bird life to observe and it is also a great spot for dog walkers. We are totally dog friendly.

Neighbourhood information

Nearby, you can visit Conishead Priory, home to the Buddhist monks, Holker Hall and The Lakeland Motor Museum as well as Dalton Wildlife Park. You may want to walk up the canal into Ulverston Market Town which has many individual shops and is known as The Festival Town. Festivals held are The Dickensian Weekend, the Lantern Procession, Walkers Festival and many more including Another Fine Fest which celebrates one of our most famous sons of Ulverston, Stan Laurel.
