The Cider House at Stathe Farm is a newly renovated country barn conversion and enjoys breathtaking views over the River Parrett, across the Somerset levels and on to Aller, a historic parish originally listed in the Domesday book. As the name suggests, the Cider House once stored cider made from apples grown in the farm orchard. With easy access to local villages, country pubs and miles of quiet country lanes and beautiful river walks, Stathe is a haven of peace and tranquility just perfect for that special getaway. The Cider House is a high end 2 bedroom holiday home that has a vintage, warm and cosy country cottage feel. Upstairs and taking full advantage of those spectacular views, we offer 2 super king bedrooms with the flexibility to convert one of the king size beds into two singles if needed. These bedrooms are fitted with curtains and blackout blinds and the bathrooms are heated and enjoy the luxury of heated towel rails. You will notice the beautiful, original elm floorboards in the bathroom with the shower. Downstairs we offer a spacious living room and dining room. The living room features a log burning fire and comfortable seating, whilst the dining room is equipped with a beautiful oak table with four chairs and a working area in the corner, if you need to catch up with a few emails. The clean and newly fitted kitchen if fully equipped, including a full size dishwasher. The Cider House is accessed by entering the courtyard, through the secure double gates. This outside private area and seating is the perfect space to sit out, relax and enjoy a drink in the evening sun. The Cider House is its’ own self contained property which you will find is very quiet and private. There is ample safe, off road parking available.
We are all Somerset born and bred and so passionate about our beautiful county. I grew up on a dairy farm and love the outside life. I’m married to Mark who likes to renovate houses or make bespoke items of furniture using oak. Wee have two wonderful boys, Freddie and Charlie who you may see outside tending the gardens or cutting the grass. We moved to Stathe in January 2024 (from only 10 miles away) to gain more privacy and to enable me to give up my nursing career of 30 years and do holiday lets.
The definition of Stathe is a landing place or wharf for transshipment especially of coal (as from railroad cars into ships). Stathe Farm/The Cider House is set within rural surroundings of the Somerset levels in the peaceful Hamlet of Stathe. Positioned some 4 miles from Langport, 7 miles from Bridgwater and 12 miles from the County town of Taunton. Although in the heart of the countryside, there is a village shop and pub a short distance away in the village of Stoke St Gregory and organic/raw milk can be bought from the dairy farm down the road. Only steps away and you’re on the footpath and can walk along the river. There are plenty of scenic walks around the area which you don’t even need to get in car for. We are right on the Parrett Trail which provides you with a riverside walk either to the lovely market town of Langport or a shorter option of Burrow Mump and a pint in the King Alfred. The cycling around here is great. We have bikes that you are welcome to borrow. There are local taxi services that we can also recommend to our guests who are both reliable and value for money.
