Located in Freston, The Dairy is a wonderful, refurbished holiday cottage with three double bedrooms, ample living space and its own private decked terrace. This spacious property has been finished to a very high standard with its unique fittings giving it a lovely cosy feel. Situated on beautiful Lodge Farm in the Shotley Peninsula, between the River Stour and the River Orwell, this is a wonderful choice for anyone looking for a remote location, yet within easy access to watersports, fishing, The Suffolk Food Hall, cycling and wonderful walks.
Neighbourhood information
Freston is a charming village, located on the Shotley Peninsula, an awe-inspiring location between the River Orwell and the River Stour. Towards the tip of the peninsular there are extensive views of the Port of Felixstowe, Landguard Fort and Harwich. The landscape is predominantly ancient estate farmlands, salt marshes and mudflats – the latter offer feeding grounds for estuary birds, wild fowl and waders.
The farm is an hour round trip walk to The Suffolk Food Hall (run by the owners), which is a nationally recognised farm shop and restaurant selling the best of Suffolk produce, offering a host of activities including cookery classes, and there is a café. The Freston Boot is a traditional pub within walking distance, in a beautiful 17th century building offering fresh food, regular quiz and pie nights, and a cinema!
Only a few miles away is Jimmy's Children’s Farm made famous by the BBC, which is a great attraction for all the family. There’s also Suffolk Ski Centre which offers ski and snowboarding lessons. There are several private roads around the farm, along with a network of guided footpaths and cycle trails to explore.
For museum enthusiasts, The Ipswich Transport Museum offers over 100 buses, lorries, fire engines and other transport modes made or used in the Ipswich area.
Enjoy the river by land or boat and savour a well-earned drink at the Butt and Oyster pub in Pin Mill. Alton Water recreational facilities are also within cycling distance, offering row boat, canoe and kayak hire, plus windsurfers and paddleboards.
Felixstowe is home of the UK’s largest container port but also a well-loved seaside resort with sand and shingle beaches, a long promenade, seafront gardens and a variety of seaside attractions. North of the town centre is the old fishing hamlet of Felixstowe Ferry with its gallery, golf course, boat yard, fresh fish stands and riverside inn – well worth a visit.
