Around 8 minutes’ drive from the pretty village of Castle Combe, The Garden House Grittleton in Grittleton offers elegant rooms and full English breakfasts. Just over 6 miles from Chippenham and around 15 miles from Bath, this Wiltshire B&B provides free WiFi and free on-site parking. Each room has a flat-screen TV, alarm clock and tea and coffee facilities. All rooms have an en suite or private bathroom with bath, shower and hairdryer. Full English breakfast is served each morning at The Garden House Grittleton. There is also a pub around 10 minutes’ walk away which serves home-cooked food each evening. The Garden House was built as part of the Estate which owned most of Grittleton and the surrounding villages. The property is contained within the Victorian gardens where the fruit and veg for the larger estate would have been grown. Many of the features and history from Victorian times still exist although the property is forever changing and being modernised. There is plenty of room for parking and the 2 acre garden provides plenty of room to stretch the legs or play around. Fruit and veg are still grown but on a much smaller scale.
I took over the running of the B&B in 2011 when my parents retired. I've had time to get know what customers like and what they don't like. I have spent the last 10 years improving the B&B and tweaking the service. I'm proud of the feedback we have received and aim to improve our score each year. If I ever get a day off, I like to play football, cycle, and tinker in the shed and the garden.
Grittleton is a traditional Cotswold estate village, mostly built during the Victorian period using Cotswold stone. The village retains its original charm with its Norman church, Cotswold stone cottages and Victorian cricket pavilion. The cricket field has swings and a slide and space for the children to play. The traditional pub serves food and drinks from Noon until 3PM and 6PM until Midnight. Castle Combe village is 2 miles south west, another very traditional Cotswold village. It has a picturesque golf course and Castle Combe race circuit.
