The Glenerne lies at the southern end of Eyemouth's lively working harbour, and is a haven of tranquillity in what is a fascinating and captivating location. Both Edinburgh and Newcastle are just over one hour away by train or road. Our guests stay in understated luxury, just a stone's throw from the boats, the shops and cafes, and some fabulous coastal scenery. There's also a sheltered beach a short walk away, and the area offers numerous opportunities for walkers, cyclists, golfers, water sports enthusiasts or for simply relaxing. The Glenerne isn't just a B&B - it's also our home. So it's important to us that our guests are as happy and comfortable being here as we are. A freshly cooked Scottish breakfast, clean and comfortable bedrooms and genial hospitality are all part of your stay. There's also a stylish dining and lounge area, free nearby parking, plus the use of our extensive outside terraces and mature gardens - a unique feature of The Glenerne. The rugged and dramatic coastline where Eyemouth sits is perfect for those that enjoy wildlife and geology at its unspoilt best. There is always something to see in the busy working harbour too, with vessels of all kinds coming and going, and even a resident seal colony. The Glenerne is the perfect base from which to see it all!
Rachel and Tony have both enjoyed lengthy and successful careers in business and commerce before acquiring The Glenerne in June 2025. Tony's long-held desire to live on the coast, and Eyemouth's proximity to Rachel's family, prompted the move from the Midlands of England to the borders of Scotland. During their previous professional careers they have both travelled extensively, and so recognise the importance of both quality and value when choosing and booking hotel or B&B accommodation. They also understand that it's the smallest personal, thoughtful touches that can make the biggest difference. At The Glenerne we hope we've found the right balance, and that you'll enjoy the tasteful décor, the comfortable rooms and facilities, the wonderful surroundings and the relaxed, informal atmosphere.
From Smuggler's Tales to Seal Safaris, there's something for everyone. Eyemouth is a great base for walking or cycling. Located on several coastal and inland paths and trails, there are many resources available to help you plan your days. There something for all levels from a serious hike to a relaxed saunter around ancient castles and churches. The views are always picturesque and often stunning, and being a national nature reserve the area is a haven for all kinds of seabirds and wildlife. In Scotland there are over 550 golf courses to choose from - that's more courses per head of population than anywhere else in the world! The range and breadth of Scottish golf courses means that whatever your level and course preference, you'll never be far from fairways and greens suited to you. Edinburgh is Scotland's compact, hilly capital and is only an hour away from Eyemouth by train or road. It has a medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny.
