Company information

Hi, we are Dan and Philippa Cunningham.  Our family purchased Torr Vale Mill in 2000 and we started renovations and developments in 2009. We have a brilliant team who are on hand for all our guests and we see as part of our extended family. Our mission Torr Vale Mill is a grade II* listed building and it's our obligation and mission to preserve this beautiful piece of English heritage.  In addition to this, we care very much about the environment and climate change which remains in our minds with all the developments of the mill. For example, we have installed pumps which uses the water from the River Goyt to generate heating for the main mill floors.  Where possible, we reuse materials from the mill in our developments such as the old cotton trollies are now seating outside for the events floor.   This also compliments the community ethos of new mills where you will find hydro power being created through one of the first community projects in the UK on the other side of the millennium bridge!

The Lean To House The Lean To House was renovated in 2021 at Torr Vale Mill. This property was originally the old store room, which as it implies was used to store a variety of items required by the cotton mill. With it's modern amenities, it has a lovely full corridor length of windows which face the main mill and look over the courtyard. The bedrooms at the back look onto a lovingly landscaped area from which you can listen to the sounds of the river and nature at it's best.

New Mills, Derbyshire Hayfield 2.5 miles; Buxton 11 miles; Castleton 11.5 miles New Mills is a small town situated on the borders of North West Derbyshire and Cheshire, forming part of the Derbyshire Peak District. Dating back to the 13th century, the late 20th century saw the Torrs Riverside Park (‘the park under the town’) come into being a place for recreation and relaxation, along with the New Mills Heritage Centre, opened to promote tourism in the area. The Torrs Millennium Walkway, a much-admired bridge, is set deep in the gorge and attracts many visitors, while Chapel en le Frith, the Capital of the Peaks, is only 5 miles away, boasting a cobbled market place and historic old stocks. Within easy driving distance is the delightful spa town of Buxton, famous not only for its therapeutic spring water, but also for its Pavillion Gardens and splendid Victorian Opera House, which boasts a variety of shows, attracting people from all over the world. Within easy driving distance are the Blue John show caves at Castleton and many stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Lyme Hall. You could even leave your car behind as there are direct rail links to Manchester, the Hope Valley and Sheffield. An ideal base for exploring the whole of the Peak District.
