The house is very close to the castle and also the Wye valley. It’s in a relatively quiet area in a controlled speed area. The ginger cake was a great touch on arrival and we enjoyed it, thank you!

Company information

I've owned The Lychgate since 2014 after moving here from Berkshire and have loved every minute of it. The people are so friendly, I've made some great friends and we make sure we go out and relax and have fun. Chepstow Racecourse is only 10 minutes away so we venture out there quite a bit. ,Days off are rare but when I get one I like nothing better than exploring the area. The Forest of Dean is beautiful and Monmouthshire has some beautiful places for walking/cycling and a lot of pubs! I've always worked in hospitality and will treat people how I would like to be treated, there's nothing better than getting a great review and seeing guests leave with a smile . Sadly after loosing my partner this year ( 2024) I have changed a few things, and breakfast is now self serve continental style and payment is taken on booking. The Lychgate is also self check in.

Property information

The Lychgate has a lovely homely feel to it, being over 100 years old it has lovely big ceilings with lots of large windows to let in the Welsh sunshine! The Lychgate has just been refurbished, making it modern bright and fresh, all rooms have just been decorated and all rooms have seating areas. Please note, it is now self check in . Details will be given on booking. Breakfast is self serve continential type.

Neighbourhood information

Caldicot Castle in 55 acres is a 2 minute walk across the road from me, the castle is free to enter and has a lovely coffee shop and bar with a log fire to just sit and chill next too,, The Castle also holds various events throughout the year from reenactments to open air cinemas to funfairs and the famous VW Festival. Tintern and Chepstow are a short car ride away aswell, offering a host of activities for the whole family. Cardiff is 30 minutes and 2 stops away on the train, perfect for a rugby getaway ! Bristol is also a short train ride away, and of course Wales has plenty of castles to explore.,,great fun for all the family. Monmouthshire is a beautiful county with some lovely places to visit,,all close by, Usk, Raglan, Chepstow, Tintern and The Forest of Dean .
