There was a good selection at breakfast but no cooked items which you had to help yourself to everyone sharing one table. The setting of the house was ideal but the car parking was quite tight

Lovely hotel. We were expecting a taxi to pick us up at the Quay from the Lundy boat but it did not show up and the owner kindly gave my Mum a lift to her hotel 2 miles away. Recommend.

Warm and comfortable rooms. Shower pressure was good and everything was clean. Small decorative items made the rooms homely. Thoroughly enjoyed sharing the breakfast table with other guests and chatting about our travels. Fantastic continental...

Company information

The Mount has been our (Heather and Andrew's) home for over 25 years during which time we have brought up four children (all now adult). It was already a guesthouse when we bought it, and we set out to modernise it from top to bottom. We decided to take a break a few years back, but I guess it's in the DNA and this year we decided to reopen having carried out further improvements. We have our own private space within The Mount which we share with our two spaniels, Monty and Tess. When not walking the dogs we both like to play golf and when Heather gets the opportunity to sit down, she will read a book or do the Sudoko.

Property information

The Mount is a handsome Georgian property, close to the town centre, with on site parking. We have lived here for over 25 years, during which time the house has been renovated to a luxurious standard. The rooms are priced to reflect their size and whilst all are a good size, the king size room is a very large bedroom of at least 400 square feet. The bedding is of very high quality as are the beds. All the rooms have a desk to allow for home working and the usual facilities for tea and coffee making. There is a separate lounge for guests use. We provide a continental breakfast (self serve) of tea, coffee, fruit juices, cereals, fruit, bread, jams, yoghurts etc in the dining room. We are very willing to supply alternatives if given notice. There is also a Lavazza coffee machine. Guests are welcome to use the dining room to warm up ready meals (using the microwave) or to eat take aways. The crockery and cutlery is provided and we will deal with the washing up. We operate a keysafe check in system where the lock boxes are sited near the front door. Further details are provided to guests before their arrival.

Neighbourhood information

Bideford is a small town on the River Torridge. In its heyday it was a busy port. Quieter now, although it still has some commercial shipping and the ferry to Lundy leaves from the Quay. There are a good range of local cafes and restaurants. We are only three miles away from beautiful beaches at Westward Ho and Instow. The South West Coast Path runs through the town. The Tarka Trail is a cycle track which runs along a disused railway line between Barnstaple and Torrington. Appledore is a quaint old fishing village facing Instow across the mouth of the River Torridge. Further afield a visit to Clovelly is a "must" and for the more energetic the views from the cliffs and coastal path from Westward Ho out to Hartland is a match for anything in the country. Royal North Devon Golf Course is the oldest in England and is only three miles away on Northam Burrows backing onto the beach at Westward Ho!. Northam Burrows itself is a very worthy destination. A country park with sheep and horses roaming the land and acres of space for (responsible) dog walking. If you've run out of local options , then it is less than an hour to the middle of either Dartmoor or Exmoor.
